چکیده

by spectrophotometer, readings for all samples were higher than those for the 0 ng/L calibrator; OOM extracts provided signals that were well above those of the 400 ng/L calibrator. In summary, simple aqueous extracts from small portions of 6 different OOM-associated tumors revealed very high FGF-23 concentrations as assessed by the calibrator assay; FGF-23 concentrations were also readily detectable by a modified rapid test that takes 30 min to complete. Like intraoperative parathyroid hormone assays (5 ), this rapid assay could be performed in or near the operating room, especially because visual inspection of the test plate was sufficient to detect FGF-23 in all 6 tumors tested. The assay may furthermore help define, intraoperatively, the disease-free margins of tumors located in areas that are difficult to access surgically.

Methylmalonic Acidemia Diagnosis by Laboratory Methods

Methylmalonic acidemia (MMA) is usually caused by a deficiency of the enzyme methylmalonyl-CoA mutase (MCM), a defect in the transport or synthesis of its cofactor, adenosyl-cobalamin (cblA, cblB, cblC, cblF, cblD, and cblX), or deficiency of the enzyme methylmalonyl-CoA epimerase. A comprehensive diagnostic approach involves investigations of metabolites with tandem mass spectrometry, organic ...

Survival after In-Hospital Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in a Major Referral Center during 2001-2008

Despite efforts to save more people suffering from in-hospital cardiac arrest, rates of survival after in-hospital cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) are no better today than they were more than a decade ago. This study was undertaken to assess the demographics, clinical parameters and outcomes of patients undergoing CPR by the code blue team at our center during 2001 to 2008. Data were collec...

Role of inflammatory mediators (TNF-α, IL-6, CRP), biochemical and hematological parameters in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients of Kashmir, India

Background: Type II Diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a multifactorial disease and a leading cause of premature deaths. Inflammatory cytokines are reported that they have potential to enhance insulin resistance and hence T2DM. Assessment of immunological profile in T2DM patients of Kashmir valley is unclear. So, detection of cytokines is relevant to determine the extent and direction of immune respon...
